'Hawaii Five-O' Cast News, Update: Julie Benz Joins in Season 6 As San Francisco PD Detective
From playing the role of a mayor in Syfy's hit series "Defiance," actress Julie Benz is slated to take on yet another government position, this time for the upcoming sixth season of CBS' police-procedural drama TV series, "Hawaii Five-O."
According to TV Line, the 43-year-old is joining the show in the recurring role of Jennifer, "a detective from San Francisco who is heading up a task force modelled after Five-O."
During her time with the crew, Jennifer will eventually "form a strong connection" with one of the department's finest.
"She's on loan from the San Francisco Police Department and she's going to end up, we think at least, having a relationship with Chin Ho [Daniel Dae Kim]," showrunner Peter M. Lenkov informed the publication (via TV Line). "Maybe there's going to be a romance there."
In addition to Benz, earlier casting updates pointed out the inclusion of the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Famer, Jerry Rice.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver will debut on the show's fourth episode. He runs into McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and the others while they are resting up after a day's work.
"Jerry Rice is an NFL legend, as well as just an outstanding gentleman, and we are so glad to have him join the Five-0 ohana for this episode," Lenkov spoke about Rice in a separate interview with EW. "And considering McGarrett and Chin's [Daniel Dae Kim] former glory days of high school football and the team's annual football games, perhaps Jerry can give them a few pointers."
As with the plot for Season 6, it is said that the new chapter will pick up right after the events of the previous season. Rumors further indicated that there's going to be a story that would involve a hidden treasure.
"Hawaii Five-O" Season 6 premieres September 25 on CBS. Stay tuned for more updates.
