Hillary Clinton Unveils Aggressive Plan for Stricter Gun Control

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton recently unveiled her proposal for stricter gun control laws after the deadly mass shooting at an Oregon college.

On Monday, the Democratic frontrunner spoke in front of a crowd in New Hampshire and announced her gun control plan that includes patches for the loopholes on private sale of arms. Hillary Clinton's proposed executive action would allow gun violence victims to file lawsuits against weapon manufacturers, according to The Hill.

Clinton proposed a repeal of legislation to address the loophole which allows even those with felony records to purchase guns. She said these people who do not pass federal background checks should not be allowed to buy guns, the report details.

The Democratic presidential candidate mentioned one bipartisan bill which aimed to expand background checks for potential gun owners, but it did not get past the Senate, Think Progress reports.

"I really do want to push hard to get more sensible restraints on gun ownership in the wrong hands, and then to try and keep track of people who shouldn't have guns," The Hill quotes Clinton's statement at the event shown by NBC on "Today Show."

Clinton also expressed her desire to cooperate with the Congress to implement stricter gun control measures. She said if she becomes president, she will find ways to "tighten" background checks, especially during gun shows and online sales, the report relays.

The Democrat's proposed measures include universal background checks, renewal of the assault weapons ban, and barring domestic abusers from holding guns.

After last week's Oregon shooting, which left nine individuals dead, she called gun violence in the United States an "epidemic," which requires the whole nation to act before more people are killed.

In addition, Clinton expressed support for the suggestion to form a National Rifle Association alternative. She encouraged gun owners to create another organization that would "take back the second amendment from these extremists."

Hillary Clinton's aggressive gun control proposal comes as part of her bid to gain more traction over her political rivals including Senator Bernie Sanders, who has not yet announced his own gun control plan. Sanders currently leads over Clinton in New Hampshire but has been slammed over his pro-gun stand.
