'Homeland' Season 3 Premiere Episode Leaked Online

For fans of the Showtime series "Homeland," an accidental online leak led to some guilty pleasure. The full season three premiere, which is not scheduled to air until Sept. 29, was leaked online and enjoyed by fans everywhere.

Showtime has not commented about the situation, but Variety magazine has confirmed that the full-length episode was leaked and that "hundreds of thousands of copies" have been downloaded. It closely resembled the screener given to critics at the Television Critics Association event in July but lacks opening credits and some special effects.

"Homeland" was a runaway success in its freshman season on Showtime; the all-star cast featuring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis struggled somewhat in its sophomore season but still pulled in the ratings. Now it will return for a third season, and fans could not be more excited, given the powerful, cliff-hanging season finale.

The show's creators, Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, offered some insight into the third season, including the fact that Lewis' character will not be seen in the first two episodes. In the season finale, Lewis was the most-wanted man on Earth and had to head into the wilderness to save his life.

"He's on the lam," Lewis said during the Television Critics Association event. "He's disappeared into a network Carrie has effected, and he's the most-wanted criminal in the world, so he has to lay low. I hope that when you do see Brody for the first time, it will be real, real interesting."

Twitter lit up with people wanting to know where to download the season premiere, but fortunately no one is spoiling the episode for others.

"Had no idea the first episode of #homeland got leaked yesterday, definitely one to watch tonight!" tweeted Tom.

"Everyone's telling me episode 1 of homeland is leaked," posted gail kim. "How do I get it? Can I do it on my iPhone?"

Last month, HBO's "Game of Thrones" was accidentally leaked, leading to an increase in interest and viewers.
