BGR reports that EP Alex Gansa announced at the panel session of the Television Critics Association that the television drama's Season 6 will premiere on Jan. 15. The production of the show will start this week in New York City.

Gansa also confirmed that the hit television series was already renewed by Showtime for its eighth season, which will most likely be the show's last. He said that the eight seasons for "Homeland" are already enough to stay true with the story and keep the quality up.

Per Variety, Gansa detailed that the sixth season of "Homeland" will highlight the transition of presidential power in America, as well as, the 70 days between the Election Day and the presidential inauguration. He also added that the season will tackle the experiences and struggles of the first female president in the U.S. at the height of the national security crises.
Moreover, Gansa revealed that the Iran nuclear deal will still play a big part in the plot of the next season. The show will also highlight the nation's treatment to the Muslim community since the 9/11 attack up to the present.
Gansa also gave an overview that Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) will be tasked to brief the new female president about the pressing security threats of the nation. He teased that Dar will cling with his agenda as a black ops specialist.
The executive producer also added that Saul and Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will continue with their relationship drama despite their special connection. As for Carrie, she will also reject Saul's offer to get back to the CIA.

Just like other popular television dramas, "Homeland" has suffered fluctuations in ratings as its season progresses. The first season of the show was a huge success, engaging 1.08 million viewers on its pilot episode and 1.7 million viewers on its finale.
