'Homeland' Season 7 Spoilers: Will Carrie Acquire a New Ally or Foe?

A mysterious woman will enter the equation in the upcoming season of "Homeland." Whether or not she will be a friend to Carrie (Claire Danes) was not revealed.

According to Variety, "House of Cards" alum Sandrine Holt has been tapped to play a pivotal role in the new installment. Very few details have been revealed about the character she would play. Holt will reportedly appear in two episodes, with the option for more. Showtime has teased that Holt's arc would be significant to the new storyline. Speculations are rife, though, that the character will either be part of Carrie or President Keane's (Elizabeth Marvel) side in the looming battle for dominance.

It has been teased that Keane's paranoia will take center stage in season 7. Her refusal to conduct dialogues with her former allies will be her downfall. Previously, she cut off Carrie when the latter tried to explain that Saul (Mandy Patinkin) was not behind of the coup against the administration. During the last minutes of the finale, Carrie could be seen gazing at the capitol, considering her next move. It is expected that she will resign as one of Keane's senior advisors and rejoin the intelligence community.

Spoilers indicate that aside from handling national emergencies, Carrie will be sent abroad to handle dangerous missions. Series creator Alex Gansa said that it was time for the agent to return where she belongs. She previously left the CIA due to a controversy.

"We are faced with the task, again, of getting our lead character Carrie Mathison back into the intelligence community. She's been outside that business for too long. And I think we've exhausted the storytelling around that idea. We're going to have to get her back and we're hoping to send her on a mission overseas," Gansa said.

"Homeland" season 7 is speculated to air in January 2018.
