'Homeland' Spoilers Leaked by Creators

"Homeland" returns for its third season on September 29, but co-creators Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon held a press event to provide context for the upcoming season. Read on for more information about the new season but be warned that there are spoilers.

At the end of last season, Carrie, played by Claire Danes, dropped Brody, played by Damian Lewis, at the edge of the woods and he simply walked away. Fans were uncertain where Brody was headed or what might become of him, but now the creators are speaking out about Brody's storyline.

"I don't think it would be a betrayal to say that he's not in the first two episodes, but it would be a betrayal to tell you when he does appear," Gansa said. "His flight from America just made it impossible to incorporate in the first two episodes."

"He's on the lam," Lewis added. "He's disappeared into a network Carrie has effected, and he's the most-wanted criminal in the world, so he has to lay low. I do hope that when you do see Brody for the first time, it will be real, real interesting."

Danes' character, Carrie, is still reeling from losing Brody and the devastation that was done to her unit. Hundreds of CIA members and high-powered officials were killed in an explosion, and nothing will ever be the same for the team.

"As a result of the attack last year, the CIA itself is on trial. Saul (played by Mandy Patinkin) is in a unique position that he's never been in before. He's in the director's chair. He has to make some very uncharacteristic choices that he's not comfortable making," Gansa explained. "Both Carrie and Saul feel a devastating amount of guilt from this loss. Even though they're estranged, they experienced that trauma in a way that no one else has."

As for Carrie, she is once again off of her meds "for all sorts of reasons, which she believes strongly in," Danes said. "She's not great on the meds and she's even worse off them, but there's a really great sweet spot in the middle of those two spots that she's always trying to land on."
