'House of Cards' Fans Start Online Petition for Kevin James to Replace Kevin Spacey on Political Drama

Fans are helping Netflix save time in brainstorming who could replace Kevin Spacey on its  original hit political drama "House of Cards."

Netflix has already announced that the show would continue without Spacey following multiple sexual assault allegations made against him by a number of Hollywood actors and some "House of Cards" staff members.

Fans did not seem to have a difficult time understanding Netflix's actions, considering the grounds for their decision. In fact, thousands of them immediately supported the idea that Kevin James could likely continue the tale of the notorious anti-hero Frank Underwood.

Robbie Pyma started the online petition on Change.org that aimed to "Keep Netflix's 'House of Cards' running with Kevin James replacing Kevin Spacey."

In the petition's cover message, the "House of Cards" fan and campaigner said: "I think Kevin James can elevate 'House of Cards' to a globally adored franchise like 'Game of Thrones' and make the entire world focus on one of the most important Netflix Original series there is."

As of this writing, 37,600 fans agreed with Pyma. This means that the petition, which was addressed to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, has passed the 35,000 mark and is now aiming to garner 50,000 signatures.

In the online petition's comment section, several fans expressed their agreement with the idea of seeing James as the new fictional president of the United States. One fan and petitioner noted that both actors were named Kevin and that having James on the show would be a "smart business decision."

Meanwhile, fans may also recall that Netflix seems to value fans' online requests, especially reinforced with a petition.

Earlier in May, Netflix sealed a movie project to star Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o after thousands of fans re-shared a photo of the actresses while they were seated beside each other at a 2014 fashion show.

Fans of "Sense8" all over the world also rallied together and called out Netflix for suddenly canceling the show. In response, the streaming giant ordered a two-hour finale that will premiere in 2018.
