'House of Cards' Season 5 Plot Rumors: Will Frank Underwood Stay in Power?

The American political drama series on Netflix, "House of Cards" has concluded another "great" season, according to a review in IGN, where the reviewer also noted that this was the "best season since the first." As fans await news about Season 5, rumors and reports are already circulating about the next season will bring to incumbent President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), his political allies and enemies.

According to a report in Christian Today, Underwood will find his political hardships continue in the show's next season. One real threat for his presidency is New York Governor and a Republican nominee for President Will Conway (Joel Kinnaman). The report cited that the actor is set to reprise his role in season 5 which means that Underwood will be up for a fight. The end of season 4 does not reveal who will win the elections so this will be carried over to the next season.

Another report in Bustle predicted that the result of the elections, which will be a major turning point for the main characters, will likely come out somewhere in the middle of the season. It also mentioned that both the Republican and Democratic nominees for president were seen in a negative light by American voters at the end of season 4, with Underwood's corruption exposed and with Conway's meddling in Underwood's terrorist plans revealed.

If Conway will not succeed in his plot to get Underwood out of the Oval Office, there are other reports that point to someone else close enough to Underwood to do the deed. According to the Christian Times report, Claire (Robin Wright), the ex-wife and surprisingly Underwood's running mate, may deal the deadly blow. If she succeeds in winning as Vice President, she is in a position to threaten Frank. As it is, her relationship with Tom Yates (Paul Sparks) is distracting the President.

As for the fate of other characters in the show, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) may find himself smitten by another character, Laura, as they shared some moments in season 4 which may continue in the season 5 story line. Another rumor however points to Doug's death in the upcoming season.

Although Netflix has not announced the release date for season 5, it is expected to come out in March next year.
