Current standings show that the Hawks are atop the Southeast Division with a 20-13 pip. However, they do not have enough breathing room as the teams below them are closing in for the top spot in one of the most competitive divisions in the league.
The Miami Heat are only 0.5 games behind them at the moment, while the Orlando Magic are third and only 1.0 games behind. The Charlotte Hornets are also in the running as they are only 1.5 games behind in fourth place. The Washington Wizards round out the division and are 4.0 games back.
Atlanta's steady play and very reliable line-up carry them on big wins during tough games. Despite losing players in the off-season, the core of the Hawks is still intact and players like Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague are still around to carry the teams to the record they need to have.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Rockets who are at 16-16 at the moment. It is difficult to find out exactly what is going wrong for the team as they still have stars in the line-up such as Dwight Howard and James Harden but they have not gotten the wins they need.
They already changed coaches once in this season but the result remains the same and the Rockets will need to change things in order to get something good started this season.
