Houston Texans Roster, Injury News 2017: Defensive End Christian Covington Out for the Season With Torn Biceps
Houston Texans defensive end Christian Covington is done for the year after he suffered a season-ending injury last Sunday.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has confirmed that Covington has been diagnosed with a torn biceps and he's expected to miss the remainder of the season while he recovers.
"I think it's too bad for him because he was really playing at a high level. It was too bad for us, too," O'Brien said, via the team's official website.
Suffering a serious injury can be pretty frustrating for most players, but Covington is keeping his spirits high.
"It could be a lot worse and football is far from over for me and I truly thank God for that. My heart goes out to my incredible team and brothers on the field. Forget physical pain, I just want to be out there with y'all fighting for what we all want so much. Keep fighting, keep balling, and go get what we're after," Covington wrote on his Instagram account.
Covington tore his biceps when he tackled Seahawks running back Eddie Lacy midway through the third quarter in their 41–38 loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
The third-year pro has only started one game this season, but he has played in all seven games so far before he got hurt. He will finish the campaign with 16 tackles (10 solo tackles), a sack and one forced fumble.
Meanwhile, the Texans' defensive line is pretty thin right now with Covington joining four-time first-team All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt on the shelf for the rest of the year. Joel Heath (knee) and Kendall Langford (back) are banged up as well, so they may have to rely on Carlos Watkins, D.J. Reader and Brandon Dunn in the coming weeks. The Texans also have rookie Chunky Clements on their practice squad.
