'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Release Date, Plot News: Is the Third Film Going to Be the Last?
"How to Train Your Dragon" was an unexpected success for both children and adult audiences. It's no wonder that it was quickly followed up by a sequel. Now, the third film already received a go-signal and it looks like it may be the last of the franchise as confirmed by Director Dean DeBlois himself.
The story of the movie was initially inspired by the writing of Cressida Cowell. Cowell's novel series starts off in a time when Hiccup reminisces about the time when dragons lived among them. If her novels will be a firm basis for the third movie, then signs point to an all-out humans versus dragons war. This war will trigger an end of an era, as humans and dragons may reach an impasse and may ultimately decide to part ways in the end.
Now according to the report by Youth Health Magazine, it seems that not only will audiences see the return of Hiccup and Toothless but as well as a main villain, specifically Drago. Despite seeming to be no longer a threat after the sequel, apparently he will be coming back with vengeance and more powerful than before.
DeBlois spoke with Collider about Drago's appearance once more in the movie and he teased, "You have to wait until the third film to actually see where Drago's character goes. He's a lot more complex than he's presented in this second installment."
Reprising his role as Drago will be Djimon Hounsou. It was also revealed by DeBlois that Drago wasn't the first choice for the primary villain in the sequel, and instead was supposedly Hiccup's mother, Valka. However, later on production decided otherwise, and Drago took the spotlight for the antagonist role. Cate Blanchett will also return to voice Valka in the third installment, alongside Jay Baruchel and Gerard Butler.
As of now, the initial releases set date is June 29, 2018, but many hope that it will bumped up earlier as they look forward to seeing their favorite animated Dragon back on the big screen.
