HTC One Android 4.4, KitKat Update Rolls Out on Schedule, Despite Execs Comments

The HTC Android 4.4, KitKat update is still rolling out according to the original schedule in Canada despite comments recently made by the company's president Jason Mackenzie.

He took to Twitter earlier this week to announce that HTC was behind schedule with the updates and that HTC One owners in Canada and the U.S. are going to have to wait a week or two before it was available.

Despite these comments, Canadian users are already receiving Android 4.4.2. Various reports have confirmed that users of the smartphone in the country on carriers such as Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Virgin and SaskTEL have received in in the past few days.

The update also includes Sense 5.5 and other HTC-specific improvements. This roll out could take a few days to reach everyone in Canada and users can check their Settings menu to see if it is available.

The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update began rolling out in Europe this week.

HTC announced back in November that the update would be available by the end of this month and stuck to its original promise by delivering it in a timely fashion. Availability is dependent on country and carrier so roll out times will vary.

The update is 308 MB and adds support for Bluetooth profiles along with cloud printing. Other security changes are also part of the update including the removal of Flash support. The battery icons text were changed to white. There is no word on when the HTC One users in the U.S. will receive the update.

HTC will want to have the software available before the One's successor hits stores. That model should launch sometime during the spring of this year and is currently named the HTC M8 in many of the current rumors.
