HTC One M8 vs. HTC One M7: Are the New Specs That Impressive?

The HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 are two of the finest Android handsets to ever be released by HTC.

The One M7 introduced the world to a new line of premium smartphones that would change the standard when it comes to looks and overall appeal. The One M8 was unveiled earlier this week and it's easy to see that HTC stuck with what worked as it mostly improved on what was already there with the original model. But is the new version enough to get people to buy it if they currently own an M7? Here is a brief comparison of the two.

The HTC One M7 features a 4.7-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution at 469 ppi. The One M8 comes with a 5-inch screen with the same amount of resolution at 441 ppi. The lower pixels per inch is due to the fact that the company decided to enlarge the screen on the newer model. The One M8 might have a slightly bigger display, but the M7's picture might be a little crisper and clear thanks to a higher ppi. This could be a toss-up for some, but the M7 just might have a better looking screen overall.

Processor

The HTC One M7 comes with a Snapdragon 600 chipset while the HTC One M8 features the Snapdragon 801. Both of these devices come with 2GB RAM. While the original model is pretty fast, it just isn't a match for the hardware found in the newer model. Processing technology changes quite rapidly and with each generation, devices run more smoothly. The HTC One M8 is definitely the faster of the two, however, the One M7 still gets the job done with finesse and is more than sufficient for the average smartphone user.

Camera

The HTC One M7 features a 4-Ultrapixel camera on the back and a 2.1-megapixel shooter on the front. The HTC One M8 stepped it up a few notches by adding a dual-camera on the back and keeping it at 4-Ultrapixels. The front of the handset has a 5-megapixel camera with a wide angle lens. The entire system packs a slew of new features and can provide users with better quality photos in all lighting conditions. Updates made to the Gallery app and editing options also make for a better experience overall for photographers.

Design

The all metal exterior found on the HTC One M7 has been improved on the HTC One M8 as the new device is shinier and smoother. The look that was so popular on the original is even more appealing this time around. The metal wraps around the sides of the device so that some of the plastic around the front bezel has been eliminated. It is definitely classier than the One M7. The new model easily takes it here.

Conclusion

The HTC One M7 was probably the finest Android device in 2013 and the One M8 could end up being the best of this year. The only advantage the HTC One M7 might have over the M8 is the screen which has a higher ppi thanks to its smaller size. But those who prefer a larger screen might not even care about that. The HTC One M8 outclasses the M7 in just about every other department.
