HTC One X9 Specs, Release Date Rumors: What People Know So Far
A report from the Chinese website ANZHOU says that smartphone giant HTC will soon launch its latest Android smartphone, a device that will reportedly be dubbed the One X9. According to the report, the One X9 will not be a flagship offering like the HTC One M9. Instead, it will be a midrange device geared towards customers who want to enjoy the specs and feel of a high-end smartphone but don't want to pay a premium price.
The One X9 is said to have a 5.5-inch display with 1,080 pixels. It will have a 13-megapixel main camera and an UltraPixel front shooter. UltraPixel is HTC parlance for its modified 4-megapixel camera. The rumored device is said to be powered by MediaTek's octa-core Helio X10.
The One X9's look may follow the current style of premium smartphones: a smooth metal body with softly rounded corners and a decorative strip across the upper part of its back. It may have HTC's BoomSound dual front-facing speakers. The device may have a microSD expansion card slot and a 3,000 mAh battery. According to the Chinese report, the HTC One X9 will be offered in two variants. The 32 GB model will have 3 GB of RAM while the 16 GB version will come with 2 GB of RAM.
CNET reports that the market for middle-of-the-line phones is growing at a faster pace than the market for premium devices. As such, prices for these midrange smartphones are currently dropping across the board, with smartphone manufacturers competing to broaden their market shares. Tech companies have also been taking the conservative route, not wanting to risk their businesses on a lone, premium model released annually. Instead, they are pegging their hopes on these relatively cheaper phones. HTC has followed this business model, dropping the One A9 - an inexpensive iPhone-esque model, in November.
