Hulu's 'Casual' Renewal News: Final Season Coming in 2018
"Casual," the hit Hulu original comedy series, has been renewed for a fourth season. However, it will also be the story's closing chapter.
The third season of the show concluded last Aug. 1. It left the fans with several cliffhangers, such as with Alex (Tommy Dewey) discovering that he got Rae (Maya Erskine) pregnant after an alcohol-induced one-night stand and Valerie (Michaela Watkins) finding out that her daughter Laura (Tara Lynne Barr) had packed her belongings and left for Sacramento to live with her grandmother Dawn (Frances Conroy).
Deadline has reported that Hulu has ordered an eight-episode fourth season of the show, and it will air some time in 2018, without a specific date as of writing. The renewal comes just two and a half months after conclusion of season 3.

Premiering back in 2015, "Casual" was one of the streaming network's first original drama offerings when it was starting to work on its transformation from a platform for low-cost original programming, which was made up mostly of comedy shows, to a high-end content platform.
The project hailed from series creator Zander Lehmann, showrunner Liz Tigelaar, and director Jason Reitman. It was nominated for a Golden Globe award last year for the Best Television Series, Musical, or Comedy category.
According to Variety, "Casual" was generally well received by viewers and critics. However, it may have failed to rise to popularity as "The Handmaid's Tale" did, which is another Hulu original that bagged several awards at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards and TCA Awards.
The announcement of the series' final season follows some changes in Hulu's programming leadership, where former AMC executive Joel Stillerman joined in as the chief content officer earlier this year.
Hulu's decision to put an end to "Casual" reportedly is due to the network's preparation to launch the high-profile comedy series titled "Future Man" from executive producer Seth Rogen, next month.
