'Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2' update: 100 days until show time, new ad poster becomes controversial
Happy day for all the fans who have been waiting for "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" as the movie's showing date is drawing near. In fact, in their official Twitter account, the marketing team of the trilogy has released a poster advertising the final film. The poster features the character Katniss Everdeen's (played by Jennifer Lawrence) face with the words "100 days until 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.'"
At first glance, the poster seems normal and is simply sending a message to the fans that the movie's arrival is drawing close with just 100 days left to count. However, fans began noticing a different message with the layout. "The 'unt' from 'until' is placed next to the second '0' from '100', which was formatted to look like a 'C'," as described by Stuff.co. It resulted to showing a very non-young adult fiction word being front and center and, apparently, across J.Law's face.
Film company Lionsgate - the company which produces the "Hunger Games" franchise - thought they had acted fast in removing the poster from the movie's official Twitter account but they were wrong as many people had already seen it. The poster was right away copied, distributed and discussed, causing an uproar from fans in Twitter.
"#HungerGames just dropped the c-bomb. Brilliant!," Rosalie Odtojan tweeted.
"Always remember that type plays a big part in design! C-bomb right in the middle! Ouch! #hungergames #mockingjay," Twitter user Phillip Penaluna wrote.
"The new Hunger Games Poster wasn't well thought through," wrote Charlee.
While others poured disappointment over the alleged typo, there were some who were willing to overlook it.
"Over hearing about the Hunger Games graphic. Mistakes happen and evidently some ppl have way too much time on their hands," a fan said in news.com.au.
According to Variety, the studio has yet to comment about the faulty layout incident. Nevertheless, the 100 days countdown is still on and the upcoming film will finally reveal the conclusion to the rebellion spearheaded by Katniss Everdeen. The last leg of the series will be released on November 20.
