iMac 2017 Release Date, Specs Rumors: iMac Missed Spring Launch Window; Tim Cook Says Desktops in Roadmap

The next Apple event in which the new iMac could be announced is all the way to September 2017. Since the Apple iMac did not show up in the annual Apple spring events, and the June 2017 event looks to be focusing on the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), it is more likely that the new Apple iMac will see a reveal no earlier than September of this year.

The preconditions are set for the eventual release of the upcoming Apple iMac when Intel launched its Kaby Lake processors, while Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has come up with its new Ryzen 7 chips. Apple now has a choice between the powerful Intel central processing unit (CPU) and the competitive Ryzen 7 that also brings power efficiency to the table.

All the pieces seem to be in place for the Cupertino-based company to put together into its next line of Apple iMacs for this year. As reported by PC Advisor, the Apple Store briefly closed down for "maintenance," only to reopen later with a bunch of shiny new toys on the shelves. Unfortunately for Apple desktop fans, the 2017 refresh of the iMac is still nowhere to be found.

Apple chief executive officer Tim Cook has given tech enthusiasts some assurance that the company is hard at work on their next desktop offering. When asked about Apple desktops at an internal question-and-answer session, Cook said of the importance of the desktop, as quoted by Macworld: "The desktop is very strategic for us. It's unique compared to the notebook because you can pack a lot more performance in a desktop — the largest screens, the most memory and storage, a greater variety of I/O, and fastest performance. So there are many different reasons why desktops are really important, and in some cases critical, to people."

Cook went on to address concerns that the Apple desktop has been sidelined. "Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we're committed to desktops. If there's any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that," the CEO assured Apple desktop fans all over the world.
