Immortals Tops Box Office This Weekend Grossing $32 Million
“Immortals” has topped the movie box office this weekend, surpassing expectations and raking in a massive $32 million in the States.
The 3-D action film is about warring Greek gods and an evil king, starring Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans and John Hurt.
Comedy “Jack and Jill” which stars Adam Sandler, came in second, grossing $26 million. “Puss in the Boots,” came in third this weekend, grossing $25.5 million.
"The past few weekends, the box office has been suppressed -- a lot of people were getting concerned about when there would be a kick-start," Kyle Davies, Relativity's president of worldwide distribution, told TheWrap Sunday. "I think 'Immortals' did that. I think people were concerned about young males, and I think they came out for 'Immortals.'"
Immortals, directed by Tarsem Singh, was filmed in Canada with an estimated budget of $75 million. It is about Theseus, played by Cavill, who is chosen by Greek god Zeus to lead the fight against the evil King Hyperion, played by Rourke.
