Indianapolis Colts NFL Trade Rumors: Colts, Patriots, Lions and Eagles Express Interest in Paul Worrilow
Paul Worrilow was great in his first three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, but his productivity took a massive hit when he was relegated to a backup role last season. With Deion Jones taking over his spot in the starting lineup, the Falcons reached the Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history. Unfortunately, they would come out of the losing end against the New England Patriots.
Worrilow didn't get to play much during their run to the big game, but he's still garnering a lot of interest in the free agent market. According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the Indianapolis Colts are one of the four teams interested in signing the linebacker. The Patriots, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have expressed interest as well.
The Colts released D'Qwell Jackson last month in a cost-cutting move to free up some cap space, so they will need someone to fill his spot in the lineup. Worrilow may not be the big name signing that some Colts fans are hoping for, but he has always been productive if he's given the chance to play.
"Worrilow has proven to be a solid run stopper as an inside linebacker. He has very good knack for reading opposing offensive lines and attacking running backs in open lanes," Kyle Nishida of Ink on Indy pointed out in his report. "His pass coverage skills may be a little suspect. However, the Colts need a playmaker in the middle of their defense, and Worrilow has proven to be one when given the opportunity," he continued.
Worrilow was the Falcons leading tackler for three seasons before he got demoted and he should do well if he's starting. He has recorded 385 tackles, 10 pass deflections, two interceptions, four sacks and three forced fumbles in his career.
Worrilow is not a Pro Bowler like linebacker Dont'a Hightower, but he should fill a position of need for the Colts.
