Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Andrew Luck Officially Out of the Season Due to a Lingering Shoulder Injury

After weeks of speculation, the Indianapolis Colts have finally announced that quarterback Andrew Luck has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to the lingering soreness in his right shoulder.

"The consensus from all the doctors is to continue rehab, to be patient and continue rehab," Colts general manager Chris Ballard said on Thursday, via ESPN. "The shoulder is subjective and after a surgery everybody's different, everybody rehabs at a different way. So we're going to shut his throwing down and we're going to continue to rehab," he added.

Ballard also refuted the reports that claim Luck's injury was career-ending.

"I've heard all sorts of rumors about 'career-ending.' That's not the case here. I've not got that from one doctor. Career-ending is putting him out on the field before he's ready to play. That's where you should be concerned," Ballard stated.

The Colts can say all they want about how they are concerned about Luck's long-term health, but a lot of people have already pointed out that the quarterback wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place if the team did not mishandle his shoulder injury.

Don't forget, Luck originally injured his right shoulder in Sept. 2015 and they didn't even place him on the injured reserve list that year because they wanted him on the field in case they make the playoffs. Well, they did miss it.

The shoulder would continue to bother Luck throughout the 2016 season, but the Colts never thought about shutting him down. Instead, he had to wait until after the season to undergo surgery. As Gregg Doyel of the Indianapolis Star has pointed out in his column criticizing the Colts, the team should have forced him to sit even if he wanted to play.

Luck hasn't been fully-healthy for over two years now, but it has taken this long for the Colts to officially place him on the injured reserve list.
