Infant Left Alone Photo Goes Viral: Mom Leaves Infant in Car to Do Shopping (PHOTO)
An "infant left alone" photo has gone super viral, after a couple posted a picture of a young toddler they found left alone in a car with a sign attached to the chest informing passers-by that the mom was inside doing her shopping.
The photograph originated in New Zealand and since its posting on the Internet has caused a massive uproar against the parents, with many accusing the mother of neglect and ignorance.
The photo shows an infant sleeping in a car seat locking alone inside a car.
The note attached to the baby's chest read: "My mums in doing the shopping, call her if I need anything."
The note also left the mother's phone number at the bottom, so that people could call her if they noticed any problems with the baby.
A couple who saw the baby, have reported how stunned they were by the mother's actions. The man told the New Zealand Herald: "We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back. And my wife said, 'I'm not going in without someone being here with the baby'."
That couple also reassured that the baby did look well taken care of despite the absent mother, and they also made the point of saying to the publication that they understood how difficult it was to get an infant to sleep and that it appeared the mom simply did not want to chance waking the baby.
Media sources have pointed out that regardless of whether the mother left the child because she didn't want to wake the baby, it is in fact illegal in New Zealand for a parent or guardian to leave a child under 14 years old alone for an unreasonable amount of time, or in unreasonable conditions.
It has been reported that New Zealand police are not taking any action and are not investigating the incident as no official complaint was filed with them.
