'Injustice 2' Gameplay News: Fighting Game Gets Microtransactions System; Adds Firestorm to Roster
Recently, NetherRealm Studios revealed that "Injustice 2" will arrive with a microtransactions system. Meanwhile, the developer also announced the addition of Firestorm into the game's roster.
Developers addressed game fans through the "Injustice 2" official community forum website to announce that there will be a microtransactions system in the upcoming title. With that, NetherRealm has also revealed that future players will have to work with an in-game currency called Source Crystals.
According to NetherRealm Studios' announcement: "Source Crystals are a new type of currency available in Injustice 2 that are used to purchase cosmetic features for characters. Source Crystals can be purchased using real money but aren't required to progress or advance in the game and can't be used to purchase Gear or an advantage in gameplay."
Some were concerned that the microtransactions system and the Source Crystals might provide disparity among players in terms of their ability to fight and develop their characters' skills if these aspects can be purchased through Source Crystals. On a good note, though, NetherRealm Studios clarified that it will not be the case.
"Source Crystals can only be used to purchase cosmetic adjustments to your fighters, Premiere character Skins with no gameplay advantage, and various Shaders for character costumes," the developers explained in their announcement.
NetherRealm Studios reiterated, "We value our community and want to be clear – you cannot 'pay to win' with 'Injustice 2.'"
Apart from purchasing costumes, Source Crystals can also be used for Transform Gear or the option to personally customize the appearance of the characters.
On the other hand, as promised, NetherRealm Studios introduced the 25th playable character for "Injustice 2," and it was the nuclear-powered hero, Firestorm.
As expected, Firestorm's powers are based on flames and fireballs.
Firestorm joins Aquaman, Batman, Black Canary, Brainiac, Catwoman, Cyborg, Darkseid, Deadshot, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Robin, Supergirl, Superman and Wonder Woman, among others.
"Injustice 2" will be released on May 16 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
