Instagram Extends Video Length to 60 Seconds, Feed Not Changed Yet
The Instagram community may have gone wild after learning about the changes that the photo and video-sharing app are making but this new one that they have announced will surely get the approval of many. According to a report by MTV, the Facebook-owned app revealed over their blog that the video can now be up to a full minute long.
From the 15-second limit which debuted since June 2013, users can now show more action and motion with the additional 45 seconds. As written in the blog, "We want to bring you fun, flexible and creative ways to create and watch video on Instagram. As part of our continued commitment, you'll soon have the flexibility to tell your story in up to 60 seconds of video. This is one step of many you'll see this year."
Instagram has given the 60-second feature to advertisers only, but this time, everyone will be able to get the same privilege now. The social media platform decided to take this next step after discovering that the time people spent watching video increased by more than 40 percent.
With longer videos, more assorted stories from the accounts users follow and love will be available to watch. Aside from the extended video length news, Instagram also publicized that they are bringing back the ability to make videos out of multiple clips from the camera roll of iOS users.
Meanwhile, the battle for saying no to the changes on the feed continues on. Fader reported that Instagram announced earlier this month that they will be removing the reverse chronological flow of the feed and replace it with algorithm that will sort posts based on the user's behaviors and interests. It caused an uproar to many of the users as it would mean that they may not see anymore some of the posts unless they turn on notifications.
After receiving an earful from the community, Instagram has decided to reassure the millions of users that there is no need to panic as they will not make any changes. Although, it seems like it will only be temporary as Instagram said that they will promise to let us know "when changes roll out broadly."
