One of the most important things to remember before starting the installation of the iOS 11 is to make a backup of all saved data. This is especially crucial in the case of Apple's new operating system since it is famously known for dropping support on 32-bit applications.

To save a backup, users should proceed to the "Settings" app and open the "iCloud" menu. There, they will find the "Storage & Backup" tab that will lead to the option that reads "Back Up Now." Pressing this option will then start the process.

Another significant task one must perform before installing the iOS 11 is to make sure the device's battery is at least 50 percent full. Though it sounds very simple, it can surely brick a device when ignored. If a device runs out of battery in the middle of installing a software update, there is a good chance it will stop working. One way to make sure it will not happen is to plug in the device before it finishes installing iOS 11 or any software update.

After making sure that the above-mentioned steps have been taken, users can start the process as soon as their device gets the over-the-air update notification. To know if the device already has it, iPhone and iPad users can go to Settings > General. The "Software Update" tab should contain a notification (a red circle with a number inside it) if the OTA update is ready for download.

If so, users can select the Software Update option and they will be redirected to another menu screen where a "Download and install" button can be found. After pressing that particular button, the software update will commence.

On the other hand, users who have not yet received the OTA update notification can manually install iOS 11 through iTunes. However, there is a good reason why Apple is sending OTA updates by batches. When Apple's servers get too busy accepting requests for software update installations and a user's device gets caught up in network traffic, some problems could potentially arise that will affect the device's performance.

iOS 11 can be installed on the iPhone 5s, iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus. Meanwhile, the recently announced iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X come out of the box with iOS 11.
