iOS 8 Beta 6, Gold Master Release Date: Version Not Out, What This Means for Final Version?
Apple plans to announce the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9 as well as the new operating system that it will come with. The iOS 8 has been most likely scheduled on Sept. 10, following the trend Apple follows with its Tuesday iPhone releases and its Wednesday iOS updates.
Before the Cupertino company puts out the new iOS 8, there usually precedes a time where the company would release a near-final developer state of the OS. This version has been called the "Gold Master version" and is usually released a week before the operating system's actual release.
With the iOS 8 speculated to come out on Sept. 10, the Gold Master Version is then supposed to come out on Sept. 3. However, there have been no news from various developers about them being notified of an iOS 8 GM version yet.
With the GM version still unavailable, further speculations place it's release sometime after Apple's keynote presentation for the iPhone 6 on Sept. 9.
Apple had only recently given out invitations for journalists and other people of interest to its Sept. 9 event. The invitation came with the phrase, "Wish we could say more," along with the date 9.9.2014.
The phrase could have meant anything – the announcement of Apple's wearable, the iWatch for instance – but it could also point to the possibility of the Gold Master versions release.
If the release would happen sometime after the Sept. 9 keynote, the iOS 8's release to the public could be pushed back since the Gold Master version would be up for at least a week.
