Apple believes "technology can reshape education," thus positioning its iPad as the best device to use in the classroom. With the update comes several new features useful for both teachers and students in a classroom setting.

Young students will get a simple four-digit PIN to log into their devices. Once logged in, students will be able to see their picture through "Photo ID," which could lessen instances of a mix-up among students' devices. "Shared iPad" grants full access to apps, books, and documents while also logging in students exactly where they left off.

For teachers, there's the "Classroom" app that allows them to control their students' devices to open a particular app, for instance. They can also monitor students' work through "Screen View." With the "Apple School Manager," teachers can track individual iPads, purchase apps and books, and compile courses, among other things.

Night Shift promises to let users sleep better

iOS 9.3 adds the new ability for devices to automatically manage blue light, which affects sleep. Using the clock and geolocation, devices can determine the time of day and adjust the colors automatically — warmer colors from sunset onward and regular settings in the morning.

3D Touch shortcuts

3D Touch has been extended across the iOS ecosystem with iOS 9.3. The new update provides "Quick Shortcuts" for iPhone apps, including Weather, Health, iTunes, Compass, and Settings.

Notes is more secure and organized

With iOS 9.3, Notes can keep sensitive information such as financial details and website login details under "lock and key" through a password or fingerprint. The update also allows users to organize their notes alphabetically or by date created or modified.

Health update

The update has also made it easy for users to discover third-party apps with a new slider menu. By syncing health metrics like exercise data and health goals, users can also view their health information from the Apple Watch.

News upgrade

iOS 9.3 adds landscape mode and allows users to watch videos directly from the news feed. Customization options will also help tailor the app to suit user interest.

CarPlay comes with better tunes

iOS 9.3 promises to provide better song selections based on user preference. The Nearby feature in Maps will also help users find establishments in a tap.

Although there's no word yet on when iOS 9.3 will roll out to the public, CNET notes that Apple typically releases the final version a few months after the developer preview. Forbes suspects it could come in February.
