iOS 9 News: Apple Releases Public Beta 2

The second public beta version of Apple's newest mobile OS, iOS 9, is ready for release to those who are part of the company's public beta which started on July 10. Public beta testers can now get a hold of the second version via the over-the-air updating via the Settings app of their devices.

According to a Tech Times report, this new version already addresses certain bug fixes and adds some minor new features including Picture in Picture on Podcasts, Home Sharing for iTunes and using volume buttons as camera buttons.

This version of the software, according to the report, is already in sync with the fourth developer version. In the last version of the iOS which is the iOS 8.4, the Home Sharing function was disabled. This function however was added back to the developer version of iOS 9, and thus it finds it way back to this beta version. Beta testers can now share their iTunes library with other users in their home WiFi network.

Beta testers who are using the newest model of iPod touch which sports the new A8 processor, will be happy to find support for trying out iOS 9 on their devices. Apple has made available a new installation specifically for the iPod touch. For beta testers on iPads, the new Picture in Picture function allows users to open other apps while they are watching a video on Podcasts. This is a specific taste of the multitasking features of the new iOS.

Other new features include one for Apple Pay -- in the Settings app, users can now turn off a feature that gives them easy access to Apple Pay, which is to double click the home button. A bug fix is also provided for the iOS camera. In the first public beta version, users could no longer use the volume buttons to take pictures. The second version already fixes this.

Aside from these new features and bug fixes, there were also a few design changes in this version.

Those who have installed the first beta version need to delete the existing iOS 9 Beta Profile from their device. Only after their device has been rebooted can they gain access to the second public beta profile and download it. Apple reminds public beta testers to make use of secondary devices for beta testing as this version of iOS 9 is not the final build of the software.
