IPad Air 3 News: Is Apple Still Making an iPad Air 3?

Fans of the iPad Air series were somewhat disappointed that Apple did not announce the next-generation tablet, the iPad Air 3 during its March event. Instead, consumers got a new iPad Pro tablet, one that is the same size as the iPad Air. Now, consumers are already asking if Apple is still continuing the iPad Air series or if the entry of 9.7 iPad Pro is a sign that it is discontinuing the Air series. Without any official announcements from Apple, rumors about an iPad Air 3 are still actively circulating.

When it comes to the rumored release date of the iPad Air 3, a report in Macworld UK speculated that the tablet will be unveiled in autumn 2016, together with the new iPhone, which is also expected during this time. In the same report, however, there is another rumor that March 2017 may be a more feasible date as it may want to spotlight the iPhone 7 in September 2016.

Several reports online have shared their own concept of the next iPad Air 3 and among the stunning features of the tablet are a non-protruding camera lens, a 3D Touch display which it will borrow from the iPhone 6S, and support for the Apple Pencil, which it will get from the iPad Pro series. It is also rumored to be water resistant and be made of 7000 Series Aluminum. In addition to these, the iPad Air 3 is also said to have support for a Smart Connector in order to use the Smart Keyboard accessory.

In terms of specs, an Ecumenical News report cited that it will have the same screen size of 9.7 inches with 2,048 x 1,536 pixels resolution. Under the hood, it is rumored to be powered by either an A10 or an A10X processor for faster processing.

According to Macworld UK, the iPad Air 3 may not be equipped by 3D Touch as the iPad Pro 9.7-in does not have it. Given that the Pro version has a higher spec sheet than the Air version, it unlikely that the Air version will have 3D Touch.
