iPad Mini 4 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Split Screen to be Among New Features
Leaked information has detailed one of the upcoming Apple iPad Mini 4's major features.
Apple's soon-to-be-released tablet, the iPad Mini 4, is reported to include a Split View feature, a write-up at Apple watcher, according to 9to5 Mac.
Information on the recently unveiled tablet model was said to be discovered by London-based developer Hamza Sood in the resource file data of an as-yet-unreleased OS X El Capitan for the Safari 9 browser.
The split screen feature was initially revealed during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference two months ago when the Cupertino, California tech giant's introduced its upcoming iOS 9.
During the June WWC, Apple revealed the iPad Air 2 will be getting the split screen feature which allows users to launch and run two apps at once. The feature will be powered by a firmware update the iPad Air 2's powerful A8X processor will be able to carry.
Sood, who was working on the OS X El Capitan Safari 9 browser, stumbled upon the resource file data pointing out the iPad Mini series will be getting Split View support. However, the iPad Mini 3, with its less powerful A7 processor, may not be getting the split screen feature at all.
The iPad Mini 4 is reported to be getting the same 1.5GHz A8x processor used on the iPad Air 2. It is also touted to be as thin as the iPad Air, measuring only 6.1mm, even thinner than the iPad Mini 3's 7.5mm. It is also said to be sporting an 8MP iSight camera and 2GB of RAM
Rumors have also emerged Apple may market the iPad Mini 4 based on its major upgrades to counter the disappointment users complained about over its predecessor, the iPad Mini 3. During the former's launch, its only notable difference from the iPad Mini 2 was the inclusion of Touch ID.
The iPad Mini 4 will reportedly be unveiled together with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus during Apple's keynote event on Sept. 9.
