iPad Mini Release Date Set for Oct. 26 or Nov. 2?

The iPad Mini release date could be as soon as Oct. 26 or Nov. 2, as Apple is expected to announce the device as soon as Oct. 23.

AllThingsD is reporting that Apple will hold a special media event that Tuesday where the company will introduce the public to the smaller tablet device. And since Apple normally launches devices on a Friday, Oct. 26 and Nov. 2 seem like the right dates if an unveiling were to happen that soon.

There is no news confirming this media event or its location, however, it is likely to be taking place at Apple's Town Hall auditorium at its corporate headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.

AllThingsD functions as a technology blog for The Wall Street Journal, so its reports are fairly reliable. The publication also has a good track record when it comes to predicting dates for Apple media events.

The Wall Street Journal also stated in a report last week that Asian component suppliers have started mass production of a new tablet computer that is smaller than the current iPad. It also claims to have received this information from a source on the inside.

The report also states that LG and AU optronics are making the 1024 x 768 7.85-inch display for the device and started production on the component last month.

Other technology publications have also reported that the device has already gone into production and should be ready for shipping within the next two months.

The publications include Taiwan's Economic Daily News, who stated that a bulk of the device's production will be handled by the Chinese firm known as Pegatron.

The new Apple tablet will face off against the new Kindle Fire HD and Google Nexus 7.
