iPad Pro 2 Updates and Rumors: New Version Coming in Three Display Variants? Specs, Price and Release Date Revealed
What to Expect in Apple's New iPad Pro 2 Lineup
Apple shook the tech scene last year with the release of the gigantic Apple iPad Pro 12.9 that came with a 12.9-inch display. With tech sites and bloggers praising the innovative device, Apple is set to release a new version soon. Here's everything we know so far.
Display and Design
New innovations are expected to come to the iPad Pro 2. First is the inclusion of three screen variants, with sizes of the familiar 12.9 inches and 9.7 inches, along with a new 10.5-inch option. Adapting technologies from Apple's latest devices, the iPad Pro 2 display is likely to have the True Tone display that allows the device to change its color temperature depending on the ambient lighting available.
Screen resolution would unlikely change, as the 9.7-inch version has been sporting the same display since 2012. Introduced in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, the 3D Touch feature is also expected to see action in the iPad Pro 2 models. Future versions of the device are also expected sport curved AMOLED screens as opposed to the current IPS LCD displays.
Design-wise, the iPad Pro 2 would probably stick with Apple's tradition of producing thinner and lighter devices with newer generations. The new iPhone 7 features are also said to make an appearance here. The water and dust resistance on the good side, and the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack on the bad.
Camera
It is most likely that Apple would be sticking with the current iPad Pro camera setup of a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing one. This could change, however, if it chooses to adopt the new iPhones' larger lens and dual camera setup.
Hardware and Software
As with all Apple's 2016 devices to be launched on and after September, the iPad Pro 2 is expected to come with the new iOS 10. The software will come with huge improvements across all platforms and maximizes device efficiency. Some apps also see design overhauls for a more unified look across the operating system.
The current A9X chip of the iPad Pros would then be updated to the A10X. The latest dual-core 2.26-GHz A9X would potentially be upgraded to a new hexa-core technology. This is however seen to be carried only by the 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch versions, with the 9.7-inch to be stuck with the A9X. RAM would then be upgraded to 4GB across all devices. A new version of Apple Pencil is also expected, along with the Smart Connector.
Price and Release Date
As there's still no official release date as of yet, the iPad Pro 2 could be released along with the new iPhone. However, with the release of the 9.7-inch variant earlier this year, launching of the iPad Pro 2 could be pushed back to early 2017. Pricing would most likely be similar to the original iPad Pro, which starts at $599 for the 9.7-inch version and $799 for the 12.9-inch model.
