iPhone 4S Pre-Orders: Twitter Users Buzzing With Anticipation of New Smartphone

On Friday morning, Sprint, Apple and a few other retailers started taking pre-orders for the latest iPhone from Apple, Inc., the iPhone 4S. By that time, however, Twitter was buzzing with activity from users trying to dig up information on getting their hands on the latest offering from Apple.

Despite disappointment from some that Apple had not unveiled a totally new iPhone 5, but instead a revamped iPhone 4, fans of the device were still apparently looking forward to scooping up the new smartphone.

Searches for the iPhone 4S, available for pre-order in the U.S. and the U.K., was so popular on Twitter, that the term "iPhone 4S Pre-Orders" was ranked high on the social network's Trend list Friday morning. Most queries and comments on Twitter appeared to be re-tweets of announcements on pre-orders, retailers selling the iPhone 4S and disappointment from fans who would not be able to purchase the much-coveted smartphone.

The iPhone 4s, to be in users' hands Oct. 14, is available for pre-order by Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and from T-Mobile and Vodafone in the U.K.

The iPhone 4S is also available for order through Apple.com, where the device is described as having: a dual-core A5 chip, all-new 8MP camera and optics, iOS 5 and iCloud, and Siri, a totally new interactive time-saving task feature.

Acordign to Apple, Siri is like having a personal assistant, as the feature allows users to ask direct questions.

"Siri not only understands what you say, it knows what you mean. It figures out the right apps to use to find the right answer. Then, just like a personal assistant, it answers you. Siri makes phone calls, sends messages, schedules meetings, sets reminders, and more. How much more? Just ask, and Siri tells you that, too," Apple says of the new iPhone feature.

The smartphone retails for $199 on Apple.com, with a two-year wireless service contract.
