iPhone 7 Release Date News, Specs Rumors: October 2015 Touted as Expected Launch Date (VIDEO)
Apple is rumored to be skipping the iPhone 6S entirely and releasing an iPhone 7 within 2015 to feature major changes in design and specs.
Speculation has emerged Apple is geared to release its iPhone 7 in October 2015, reportedly skipping the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus entirely due to the significant changes the company will endow its next flagship device.
While the specs of the new phone remain conjecture at the moment, KGI Securities has mentioned the company is putting in a host of major components for the iPhone 7, including an AMOLED screen that will go easier on battery consumption, and a Taptic engine to enable the same Force Touch capability seen in the Apple Watch.
The unique Force Touch, already available in USB-C Macbooks' trackpads, responds to clicks and the amount of pressure and pinching gestures users apply on the screen, making texting and photo editing easier.
The iPhone 7 is rumored to be released with the classic digital crown mechanism that's already been integrated into the Apple Watch OS, giving users the ability to select an accurate size for on-screen elements to enable easier viewing.
Based on an iPhone concept image from Behance.net, the digital crown will be located above the on/off button, and will reportedly include a Home Button functionality and TouchID sensor.
The phone is also reported to include the faster A9 processor -- an upgrade from the ARM processor, a higher RAM space, and iOS 9 software. It will be sporting a 4.7-inch screen, with the iPhone 7 Plus variant carrying a 5.5-inch display.
The smartphone's camera will also be receiving a substantial overhaul with image stabilization and a dual-lens camera that will capture DSLR-like photos. The latter speculation is due in part to Apple's recent acquisition of LinX, a company that manufactures high-tech camera sensors for smartphones.
With a new Apple patent on voice unlocking granted just last month, the new iPhone may also come with a voice unlocking feature that will bypass the traditional unlock slide and TouchID.
The iPhone 7 is also rumored to be built with Series 7000 aluminum alloy used in the Apple Watch Sport, a material 60 percent stronger than what was reportedly going to be used for the iPhone 6, but weighing a third less than stainless steel.
