iPhone 8 Plus Battery Problems: More Cases of Defective Batteries Emerge
Apple fans may want to hold off on purchasing the iPhone 8 Plus, as more cases of battery problems have emerged.
According to MacRumors, more iPhone 8 Plus users have come forward to report the faulty batteries. The issue first surfaced in Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong the week prior. Now, users from Canada and Greece have also reported experiencing the same problem.
The issue involves charging a new iPhone 8 Plus and having the case burst open due to the battery swelling up. It is currently unknown whether these cases are incidental or if there is a larger issue at hand. It remains to be seen if all iPhone 8 Plus units have defective batteries inside them.
Apple addressed the issue earlier this week after the first couple of reports on battery failures emerged. An Apple spokeswoman told MacRumors that the company is already investigating the matter. No further details were provided, however.
"We are aware and are looking into it," the spokeswoman said.
Since Apple is dealing with lithium-ion batteries, it is not surprising that a few units would have defective ones under the hood. There have only been five known cases of iPhone 8 Plus batteries swelling up so far, which means the issue is not yet too big and does not warrant a recall.
It can be remembered that Samsung experienced a similar problem not too long ago. In the South Korean tech giant's case, however, the issue proved to be more massive than initially suspected.
Apple released the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in late September following a long wait and several months of rumors. The models start at $699 and $799, respectively. The Cupertino-based tech company is set to release the iPhone X (pronounced "ten") later this month on Oct. 27. At $999, the iPhone X is considerably more expensive than the iPhone 8 models due to its highly discussed new features.
