iPhone 8 Specs & Features Rumors: Speculated 3D Front-Facing Camera Stirs Excitement
Excitement is starting to build up around the speculated 3D front-facing camera for the upcoming iPhone 8.
The reports originate from notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's latest research notes about Apple's offering for the 10th anniversary of the iPhone line. Business Insider obtained the said notes which reportedly says the Cupertino-based company is working on a new shooter with "3D sensing and modeling capabilities" that promise to "reinvent the user experience."
Kuo reportedly elaborates on his research, saying: "In keeping with Apple's stringent quality standards, we believe: (1) related optical components ... have all been custom-designed in collaboration with suppliers; and (2) calibration of front camera ... is required in order to allow the 3D camera system to operate precisely."
It was also mentioned that the camera upgrade is so complicated that it has been in development for about a couple of years now.
While it can be easily speculated that the 3D camera aims to entice the market with premium quality selfies, the shooter upgrade is also believed to pave the way for more features.
Business Insider also mentioned that with the capacity of a 3D camera, the iPhone 8 may be able to scan the face of its owner and stamp it on a gaming character's head for a more personalized feel. On the other hand, it is also highly expected to aid as an improved security feature.
With the iPhone 8, Apple is expected to go for an almost bezel-less display which might require the removal of the physical home button. Thus, the Touch ID will likely have to go as well. So, as earlier reported, Apple is speculated to go for a more advanced security feature through facial recognition with the use of 3D camera.
Meanwhile, MacWorld also considers the possibility of an iris scanning feature through the improved front-facing camera.
While Kuo's track record in releasing forecasts about the upcoming iPhones has proven to be reliable, it is still best to wait for Apple's official announcement whether this speculation will make it to the final product or not.
The iPhone 8, along with the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, are expected to be unveiled later this year.
