iPhone 8 Shipping, Delivery News: Device's Roll Out Delayed as Pre-Order Supplies Dwindle

Estimated delivery dates of the iPhone 8 began slipping, from one to two weeks for the regular iPhone and even longer for the iPhone 8 Plus. Shrinking iPhone 8 pre-order supplies seem to be the cause of the shipping delays.

The iPhone 8 Plus 256 GB model is now estimated to ship by late September or early October, after delivery dates have slipped by at most a couple of weeks. The cheaper 64 GB model, meanwhile, has its delivery dates pushed back by three to four weeks, according to a last-minute update from 9 to 5 Mac.

Customers have reported to social media how the shipping date for the iPhone 8 started slipping just minutes after pre-orders were made available on Friday, Sep. 15. After the initial rush of orders, most models of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are now indicated as shipping in one to two weeks, in line with earlier predictions.

Even these estimates could slip further, as pre-order inventory continues to shrink in the coming days, according to Mac Rumors. Out of the retailers handling pre-orders of the newly-announced devices, T-Mobile's stock seems to be dropping faster.

It's not just the new phones that are in short supply. The Watch Series 3 inventory put out by Apple seems to be limited as well, with a few models estimated to be delivered in two to three weeks.

While the 38 mm and 42 mm stainless steel versions had their ship dates extended by almost a month, a few Apple Watch models were wiped out completely. Sport models of the Apple wearable are now marked sold out, leaving buyers to settle for other variants like the Space Gray Aluminum, Gold Aluminum and Silver Aluminum, all of which are set to be delivered no earlier than two weeks out.

The iPhone 8 starts at $699, while the iPhone 8 Plus starts at $799. Both come in two variants with 64 GB or 256 GB of memory, and three color choices for now: Silver, Space Gray, and Gold like those shown in the video below.
