iPhone X Specs, Price Review, Pre-Order Details: How Much Will Apple's Most Expensive Smartphone Cost?
Apple has just launched its most high-end smartphone to date, the iPhone X.
As expected, the company went wild with the device's new features and specifications. Also called the iPhone 10 to celebrate Apple's 10th anniversary (according to Tech Radar), the iPhone X looks expensive and priced like that as well.
The iPhone X was unveiled last Sept. 12 alongside two other smartphones – the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Pre-orders for the iPhone X will begin on Oct. 27, with its retail release set for Nov. 3. Its schedule is a bit late compared to the iPhone 8 devices, but Apple promised that it would be worth the wait and money.
The iPhone X's 64GB will retail at $999, while its 256GB variant will cost a whopping $1,149. It comes in two colors - space gray and silver. Its design is said to be a bold step to a new direction, with the familiar physical home button and fingerprint sensor conspicuous in their absence. Its AMOLED screen is a vibrant 5.8-inch edge-to-edge one with a "Super Retina Display," which is a first for Apple. The smartphone's size is considerably smaller compared to the Plus-sized iPhones and lighter at 174 g. As mentioned, there is no physical home button and the control center now follows the swipe-down-from-the-top pattern.
The iPhone X's Touch ID has been replaced with Face ID, which Apple claims is more secure. The front camera is a 7MP TrueDepth one with multiple sensors. According to MacWorld, Face ID is much easier and safer to use, with a one-in-a-million chance of someone else being able to access the phone. Interestingly, the feature failed to work during the live demo with Apple's Craig Federighi, but the backup worked nonetheless. The Face ID will be replacing all the functions of the Touch ID, including Apple Pay and access to secure apps. The front camera now comes with the animoji feature (a combination of animation and emoji), with Apple working closely with Snapchat.
Meanwhile, the rear camera of the iPhone X is one with a 12MP dual lens, with a wider aperture and telephoto lens OIS.
The smartphone also features the new A11 Bionic chipset. Apple promised that the iPhone X's battery is fast charging and will last two hours longer than the iPhone 7. It will come with a regular lightning cable and 5W charging adapter. Wireless charging is also possible if the user has the AirPower pad.
