'Iron Man 4' News: Robert Downey Jr. Is Interested
The man behind the iconic Marvel character Iron Man shared some hints about the future of his role.
There have been several rumors regarding the fate of Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many believe that Robert Downey Jr. is too old to continue his legacy as Iron Man, especially since there are new sets of younger heroes introduced into the franchise.
Along with that, there were previous speculations that a younger actor will be taking on the role of Iron Man in the future Marvel films. However, Downey Jr. himself shared some teasers about what his future as Iron Man looks like.
According to Daily Star, Downey Jr. hinted that there are at least two more years of his Iron Man portrayal. With that, there were questions as to another installment of the "Iron Man" movie series. He hinted that he would be interested in taking on Iron Man for a fourth installment. However, he did not confirm the matter.
He said, "I don't know how long I'll do it for. I'll keep playing Iron Man for a couple more years, I guess."
In addition, the director of the "Iron Man" films Jon Favreau shared his sentiments on having Downey Jr. as Iron Man. According to IGN, he said, " To me he's the one element that has unified all of it, and I think kept a consistent tone, and the integrity of his acting ability and his talent really works wonderfully synergistically with the Marvel universe. I think that his personality is something which helps define it. That being said, nothing would surprise me, but for me it would be a hard pill to swallow and big shoes to fill."
While "Iron Man 4" has yet to be confirmed, fans can expect to see Downey Jr.'s Iron Man in the upcoming "Spider-Man: Homecoming." It was stated that the film will explore the bond between Iron Man and Spider-Man, which will be played by Tom Holland.
