'Iron Man 4' News, Rumors: Fans Hope to See Fourth Sequel with Robert Downey Jr.

Fans of the "Iron Man" franchise remain hopeful that Marvel will continue "Iron Man" with a fourth sequel with Robert Downey Jr. still playing the role of the titular character.

Downey has given negative responses when the topic of whether a fourth sequel will be made for "Iron Man" or if he'll continue with another installment of the franchise. However, fans continue to look forward to Marvel Studios announcing an "Iron Man 4" despite the little or no confirmation of the film franchise's continuation.

Back in July, Downey shared in an interview with News Corp Australia Network that he doesn't want to wear out the character of Iron Man by portraying him too many times.

"I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven (MCU movies) I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it's embarrassing," Downey explained.

Before that, in 2016, Downey also turned down the idea that a solo "Iron Man" movie is going to happen.

"I don't think that's in the cards. In a way, it's 'Cap 3' [Captain America: Civil War] but for me, it's like my little 'Iron Man 4,'" Downey explained in an interview with USA Today.

The only time Downey ever confirmed a fourth sequel to "Iron Man" was in 2014 when he appeared on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show." Although, it should be noted that the actor seemed unsure because he tried to segue from the topic.

When the show host first asked Downey about an "Iron Man 4," the actor started talking about other Marvel films that were in play. Downey only gave a straight answer when Ellen went back and asked him again about the fourth sequel.

There is a possibility that Marvel continues the franchise of "Iron Man" with a different actor. However, it will take some time before they decide to reboot the franchise with a new actor taking on the role of Tony Stark.

There is no confirmation yet for "Iron Man 4."
