Is Microsoft Killing the Lumia? Leaker Claims Otherwise
With Microsoft's announcement that it is letting go of thousands of its workers in its smartphone business which it inherited from Nokia, experts and analysts in the industry are assuming that this also signified the end of the Lumia line of smartphones. An online leaker claims otherwise, saying that the company has in fact six smartphones in the pipeline.
The news came from known industry leaker Evan Blass, with Twitter handle @evleaks, who claimed that Microsoft has not just one but six smartphones in development and that these new phones are expected to carry the name of the Windows 10 for mobile operating system.
According to Blass, the six new smartphones are set to be unveiled in the near future. He also claimed that one of the six is a smartphone with a selfie or front-facing camera that is equipped with a flash, which will be a first for smartphones. This phone is rumored to be one or both of the company's upcoming flagships, the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL.
Along with the high-end flagship phones, an earlier report also claimed that there will be also be two phones that are considered to be middle-range to upper-range that will be unveiled. One is rumored to be a modified version of the Lumia 830, which will now have a 5-inch display, a 13 to 14 megapixel PureView camera, dual-sim support and a more powerful processor. Another mid-range phone supposedly under development is one that has a 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch handset with similar specifications as the first one but without the PureView camera.
Meanwhile, an Indian-based firm called Zauba listed two handsets in their import and export database. One handset codenamed RM-1127 has a 4.7-inch screen with single-sim support, while the other handset has a QWERTY keyboard, which is supposed to be valued at around $102.
