'IT 2' Release Date, Plot News: Bill Skarsgård Hopes Film Sequel Will Explore the Backstory of Pennywise
The movie remake of the 1990s television mini-series and adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel "IT" became such a huge success that a sequel has already been confirmed.
At the end of the "IT: Chapter One," the Loser's Club, composed of Bill (Jaeden Lieberher), Ben (Jeremy Ray Taylor), Richie (Finn Wolfhard), Eddie (Jack Dylan Grazer), Mike (Chosen Jacobs), Stan (Wyatt Oleff), and Bev (Sophia Lillis), defeated the child-eating clown named Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård), or so they thought.
When "IT: Chapter Two" comes, Pennywise will be back looking to get revenge. It will take place 27 years after the events of the previous movie, as the sinister shape-shifting clown awakens and begins feeding again.

At the recent New York Comic-Con, Skarsgård spoke with IGN and revealed what he hopes is going to happen in the sequel to the "IT" movie remake. According to him, he would like the film to delve into the backstory of his character, Pennywise, which would allow them to examine the psychological sides of horror and focus more on the adult side of the story.
"The first movie worked so well at what it is trying to do, I think, and ultimately that is the kids' story, and you sort of fall in love with these kids. And the second one will be the adult story," he told the publication, adding that he thinks the right way to do so is to make the sequel "actively different."
Skarsgård continued, "I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he, and where does he come from?"
Apparently, the 27-year-old Swedish actor researched his character's crazy backstory and thinks that it is a key element that the film should have.
Meanwhile, the first part of the "IT" remake, which was directed by Andy Muschietti, has already become the highest-grossing horror film in box office history, according to MovieWeb. It is reportedly the first horror movie to have surpassed the $300 million ticket sales in the U.S. alone, specifically earning $304.9 million, and $603.7 million worldwide.
"IT: Chapter Two" is set to hit cinemas on Sept. 6, 2019.
