Italy vs Japan in the Confederations Cup 2013 soccer tournament takes place on Wednesday night with Japan needing to get some points to keep their hopes alive of getting out of the group stages of the competition. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. ET and can be watched online through free live stream (details below).

Japan recently clinched their spot in the World Cup Finals 2014 set to take place in Brazil. However, their celebrations were put on ice after their first game in the Confederations Cup in which they were heavily beaten by hosts Brazil.

That 3-0 loss for Japan reveals the amount of work needed by the team before next year's tournament if they want to get out of the group stages and reach the latter stages of the competition.

However, even before next year they will want to put on as good as showing as they can in the Confederations Cup 2013 tournament.

After their 3-0 drumming, things do not get any easier; they now play European giants Italy and will be hoping they have better luck at resisting the Italian attack than they managed against the skillful Brazil team.

Italy managed to claim a good win against Mexico in their opening game, and if they win again tonight they will qualify for the next round regardless of their final group game result against Brazil.

This should be a good contest, however, expect Italy to dominate possession, and if they get an early goal they could be happy to sit back deep and protect their lead.

If Japan can keep things level until at least half time then they will be hopeful of snatching a winner in the second half and serving up a shock defeat for the Italians.
