'iZombie' season 2 spoilers: Liv and Major romance still a possibilty

The new series "iZombie" has ended its freshman season with a surprising twist that sets up the main plot for the next season.

In the finale of last season, Liv's ex-fiancé Major Lilywhite (Robert Buckley) discovers her secret when he was kidnapped by the evil zombie Blaine (David Anders) in his effort to find out where the brains are stashed. Blaine offers to do an exchange with Liv (Rose McIver) his brains for her ex-fiancé, which she mistakenly agrees to. Major was stabbed by Blaine, and in order to save his life, Liv scratches him and turns him into a zombie. Blaine was turned back into a human after Liv stabs him with the zombie cure made by Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli). Liv then uses the rest of the cure to turn Major back into a human again, instead of using the cure herself.

The final episode ends rather devastatingly as Liv's teenage brother Evan (Nick Purcha) unwittingly shows up to his new job at Meat Cute, only to discover the carnage that was left behind. However, little did he know that Lt. Suzuki (Hiro Kanagawa), the corrupt police officer, is in the back room destroying all the evidence and he blew up the entire building right in front of Evan who ended up in critical condition. At the hospital, Liv was asked to donate blood, but the episode ended when Liv had to heartbreakingly say no.

The second season will introduce fans to some new faces, as Liv will meet a new person named Bethany. This new character is a personal shopper and may become her new best friend. Blaine's father, Angus as well as Liv and Evan's father, will also appear in the new season. Actor Adam Rose will play Byron McCoy, a hipster who wears ironic t-shirts and is passionate about the arts. There also might be a new love interest for Liv next season, as she utilizes her survival instincts, while Ravi perfects his zombie antidote.

Actor Robert Knepper, the "Prison Break" alum, has been tapped to play the role of Angus, the father of Blaine. He is described as sophisticated, eloquent, and thriving businessman who is always disappointed in his son.

However, fans of Liv and Major will be happy to know that there is still hope for them and their relationship. Executive producer Diane Ruggiero-Wright spoke about the possibility of seeing Major and Liv. "I really think that there is potential for them. We're not very schmuck-baity, and if they're broken apart, it's not going to be like, every week they have a fight and then they break up. We're not the type to just jerk people around. If they end, they end and then they get back together, it'll be for a good reason. There's hope, definitely," she said.

The new season will premiere on Oct. 6.
