'Jack Ryan' is Getting a TV Series on Amazon

Fans of Jack Ryan will be glad to know that the fictional hero character is going to appear once again on screen but this time it will be on TV. According to The Wrap, Paramount TV's series adaptation of the popular action franchise based on Tom Clancy's novels has been picked up by Amazon.

TV CheatSheet said that Amazon won in a heated bidding war last week for the small screen adaptation. A number of networks and digital outlets were interested with the project. But Amazon nabbed the deal in the end and it couldn't be more fitting since the online retailer sell Clancy's novels and "Jack Ryan" DVDs, and also streams the movie versions online.

It has been given a straight-to-series order and will be helmed by "Lost" Carlton Cuse, together with writer Graham Roland. It will be produced by "Transformers" Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media.

Those who follow the novels and the movie know that Jack Ryan works as an investment broker after medically retiring following a helicopter crash. He then later on took a position at the U.S. Naval Academy, then joins CIA, became a Deputy Director and eventually turned into a President of the United States.

But as Deadline reported, fans will see a fresh take of the show as it will not be a direct adaptation of the books just like the first "Jack Ryan" movies. It will follow instead the character during his prime as a CIA analyst/operative. The novels will serve as the source material in order to still be in line with its roots while putting out a contemporary version.

There is no update yet on who will be casted to play the protagonist role but the film adaptations have starred Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of all Fears) and the most recent one, Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).
