Jackie Joyner Kersee Appears on NPR's 'Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me' (VIDEO)
Jackie Joyner-Kersee, the American Olympic legend, has recorded a question and answer session this week for NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me."
The 51-year-old recorded the quiz show at Powell Symphony Hall in St. Louis, which aired at 11a.m today. For those who missed it, a re-run will air on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on KWMU-FM 90.7, an affiliate of St. Louis NPR.
Joyner-Kersee, who famously won six Olympic medals (three gold, one silver and two bronze), at the Olympic Summer Games starting in 1984, talked about her childhood and growing up in St. Louis.
Joyner-Kersee's brother is Olympic champion triple jumper Al Joyner.
During the NPR Q&A, host Peter Sagal asked: "Your brother, Al, is an Olympic Gold Medalist. Did you ever race against him?"
"I did," Joyner-Kersee replied.
Sagal then asked, "Did you smoke him?"
To which she also replied, "I did."
As one of the greatest heptathlon and long jump athletes, Joyner-Kersee was voted the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th century by Sports Illustrated for Women. She became the first woman to break 7,000 points in the 1986 Goodwill Games in Moscow, aged just 24 years old.
She currently holds the world record in heptathlon.
Joyner-Kersee married her long-time coach Bob Kersee in 1986.
