James Franco to Appear on 'The Mindy Project'
Fox's hit medical comedy "The Mindy Project" is set to return with new episodes on Sept. 14. Last season left off with Mindy (Mindy Kailing) headed to Hati for a multiple-month mission trip. Fans are eager to see how her return to America and her OBGYN practice will go-- especially now that it has been announced that James Franco will play her foil.
James Franco will play model turned doctor who makes Mindy's return to normalcy less than smooth, according to TV Guide. The show's executive producer Jack Burditt explained Franco's role in an interview with TV Guide.
"He has firmly established himself as the most popular doctor at the practice. So when Mindy returns and wants everything to go back to normal, he is a huge obstacle in her way," the executive producer said.
Jack Burditt also spoke to TV Guide about how excited he was personally to have James Franco on the set.
"I tried very hard, but probably failed, not to come off as superstalkery. It's exciting!" Burditt said.
Actor James Franco is no stranger to prime time comedies, as his breakout role as a young actor was on "Freaks and Geeks." He played the tough teenager and heart throb Daniel Desario. More recently, the actor also guest starred on popular NBC comedy "30 Rock" in 2010.
It is, as of now, unclear if Franco's role on Fox's "The Mindy Project" will be recurring, but it seems fair to assume he will be in more than one episode if he is to play a foil to Mindy's endeavors.
