Stephen King '11/22/63' Hulu TV Series Adaptation Cast News: James Franco to Star

James Franco is said to be going back to his TV roots when he will star in the original series of Hulu called "11/22/63," which is based on Stephen King's bestselling novel of the same title. The nine-episode series will be Hulu's first drama series to be produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions with Warner Bros. TV as the studio.

The series will follow the novel's storyline with James Franco playing the lead character Jake Epping, a high school English teacher who travels to the past through a time portal, and tries to stop the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy. His quest is however will be thwarted by assassin "Lee Harvey Oswald, his falling in love and the past itself … which doesn't want to be changed."

According to a report on Variety, this series is the "first original programming collaboration" between Warner Bros. TV and Hulu. The novel's author, Stephen King, joins J.J. Abrams and Bridget Carpenter as executive producers. Carpenter will also write the teleplay for the series.

Hulu intends to cover all the events in the novel in all episodes, but an Entertainment Weekly report also says that Hulu has plans to cover other historical events in future episodes of the series. Hulu was reported to have "ordered the series" as early as September 2014, Variety reported.

Franco is known for his role in "The Interview" and "127 Hours." He is also a producer of the series. Franco originally started his career on TV, in Fox's "Freaks and Geeks" in 1999 and in "General Hospital."

Hulu is an American company which offers an ad-supported online video service with a selection of TV shows, clips, movies and more. There is a free service on Hulu.com, while users who want more can purchase a Hulu Plus subscription.
