James Holmes Stuck Out Tongue, Carrying Bomb Materials in Bizarre Photos Before Aurora Shooting

Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes stuck out his tongue as he photographed himself holding bomb-making materials just a day before conducting the Colorado theater shooting last year, a police detective has revealed as he testified in court on Wednesday.

Sgt. Matthew Fyles revealed a number of bizarre photographs that were recovered from Holmes' cell phone. Along with other evidence revealed by prosecutors, Holmes was portrayed as a person who meticulously planned out his attack months in advance.

In one of the images Holmes was shown making a scowling face as he stuck out his tongue, as he held bomb-making equipment. In another photo he is shown whistling.

Prosecutor Karen Pearson told the court, "He didn't care who he killed. He intended to kill them all."

Holmes is currently facing 166 charges including murder, attempted murder, as well as weapons violations from the July 20, 2012 shooting.

Holmes reportedly went on a mass shooting spree in a Colorado movie theater killing 12 and injuring 58 others, watching the latest Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises."

The shooter wore a bullet proof vest and a gas mask at the time of the shooting, and was carrying multiple weapons with him.

The current hearing has been put before Arapahoe County District Judge William Sylvester, who must decide whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial. The result of the three day hearing will be announced on Friday, Judge Sylvester has stated.

At the hearing this week defense attorneys for Holmes had been expected to bring forward witness testimonies and argue a defense of "diminished capacity."

However, attorney Dan King has said that the defense team changed their minds during the hearing. King said, "We have had a change of position. This is neither the proper venue nor the time to put on a show or present some truncated defense."
