Jamie Waylett of 'Harry Potter' Gets 2 Years in Jail

A former member of the cast of the "Harry Potter" movie series will spend the next two years in jail for his role in the riots that consumed London last year.

Prosecutors claimed that Jaime Waylett, 22, who played Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe in six of the movies in the series, was part of a small gang that played a role in the riots in north London on Aug. 8, according to the BBC.

The jury at London's Wood Green Crown Court found Waylett guilty of violent disorder, but he was spared a conviction on a more serious charge of intending to destroy or damage property with a flammable device.

Waylett was convicted in part due to video surveillance which caught the young actor drinking champagne that had been stolen from a local store.

He received the 2-year jail sentence along with a concurrent 12-month sentence for handling stolen property. He will be eligible for early release after just a year in jail, the BBC reported Tuesday.

The judge, Simon Carr, gave his thoughts on the case after the jury had read their verdict.

"You chose to go out on to the streets on what was the third day of the violence," Carr said, adding that the "Harry Potter" cast member was seen near a part of town that had been previously looted holding a Molotov cocktail.

"I accept entirely the jury's verdict that you did not throw or have any intention of throwing it, but merely being in possession of it would have been terrifying to anyone who saw you," the judge said.

Cops who were investigating Waylett after his initial arrest claimed that they had discovered 15 cannabis plants in his house, according to reports from TMZ from last October.

Officials also stated that Waylett had a previous conviction for growing marijuana.
