'Judge Judy' Sparks Hammer Attack

Judge Judy is known for handing down swift and decisive judgments for those who wearily stand before her, but even watching her show on television can cause a person to become enraged.

According to the probable cause affidavit by Jupiter Police, Janet Knowles was arrested Sunday morning after she hit a 65-year-old man on the head with a hammer. Janet Knowles, of Jupiter, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.

Jupiter Police responded to the defendant's house around 11:30 a.m., Sunday, after dispatchers received calls of a domestic disturbance.

When the authorities arrived, they interviewed the alleged victim. The man, who was not named in the probable cause affidavit, talked to investigators while he held a bloody paper towel on his head, as reported by WPTV.

When police entered the house they found the hammer inside the residence. Police then asked Knowles to follow them outside. Knowles ignored the authorities request to leave explaining that she lived there and was not going to leave. Police stated she told them she “was upset because Judge Judy was on the television," according to the affidavit.

The victim proceeded to tell officers he was sitting in his recliner when Knowles got "upset with Judge Judy." According to reports that is when Knowles grabbed the hammer and hit the victim, which caused lacerations on his head and arm.

Knowles is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail with a $10,000 bond for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

While this may seem as an isolated incident there are other altercations over television. Last month in St. Louis, five inmates fought over what channel to watch, sending one prisoner to the hospital.

A Florida man, earlier this year, was arguing over which character would win in the George R.R. Martin series “Games of Thrones”, and ended up tossing his cousin into the front window.
